Notebook For Bro

I was searching for a notebook computer for my brother because he needs one for his school. He is taking up IT and needs a new notebook for his school. I wish he will like my pick; I plan to give him either HP or Vaio.
Now I'm getting confused, I have a 2 year old Vaio and was contemplating for a new one. Do I have to buy a new one for me and give my old one to my brother or just wait and buy a new one for my brother? I guess I'll just get him a new one and I'll get myself a new one next year.
